VCC Foundation announces new funding support to help students flourish in their chosen trade
As a result of the sold-out Flourish 2023 gala event, the VCC Foundation raised over $90k to support student scholarship and awards. With these funds and the funds raised from previous events, the Foundation is pleased to announce new funding initiatives to support VCC students.
“The VCC Foundation is excited to commit $112,500 over the next three years from our Flourish gala proceeds to support various student awards and programs,” says Moira Gookstetter, Executive Director, VCC Foundation.
These funds will go to support the creation of eight new awards with departments who were actively engaged in this year’s gala. Departments receiving the new $1,500 award include:
- Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) & Building Information Modelling (BIM)
- Fashion Design and Production
- Hair and Esthetics
- Graphic Design
- Foundations - Science
- Auto Service Technician
- Auto Collision
- Jewellery
The funds will also support the enhancement of the existing Flourish Bursary to two $1,500 awards annually, and Health Sciences will also benefit with one new award, also valued at $1,500.
Details on how to apply for the new awards will be announced later this year, please stay tuned!
Finally, as key partners in Flourish, VCC’s Culinary, Baking, and Hospitality programs will receive $7,500 per year, per department, to support and enable the full return of our internal skills competitions.
Adds Dennis Innes, Dean of Hospitality, Food Studies and Applied Business: “VCC offers world-class training in culinary arts, baking, and hospitality. Part of this training includes opportunities for students to hone their skills in a safe yet competitive environment. We are so pleased to receive additional funding from VCC Foundation to host more skills competitions that provide valuable experience for our students.”
