Fun Facts and Q&A

First job: Kennel assistant
Program: Hospitality Management
Current job: Supervisor at Arc - Fairmont Waterfront
Work mantra: Keep learning. Focus on the here and now.

What's the best part about your job?

The people! I have a great team I’m working with at the moment and it makes going to work fun and enjoyable. Also no two days are the same.

What’s your most memorable experience at VCC?

Joining the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) committee. It got me out of my comfort zone and allowed me to experience so many wonderful learning opportunities at the school. I even took on leadership roles within the program such as becoming the lead student ambassador for interview weeks, a hiring event that includes industry partners looking to hire recent grads. These were a lot of fun and really increased my confidence.

How did your VCC program help you get a job after graduation?

This program will help you progress in your career faster than without it. You won’t necessarily get a management role right out of the gate, that's a type of role you need to work for if you really want that experience.

Advice to fellow students looking to get into the field?

Say yes to opportunities! Especially when starting out early on in your career. Each role you take is a stepping stone to something bigger, working your way up each time. While job searching can be hard, don’t get defeated. Every rejection is redirection.
