Naz Serter, originally from Istanbul, Turkey, recently graduated from VCC's Business and Project Management Post-Degree Diploma. Prior to studying at VCC, Naz obtained a Master's Degree in Phytotherapy in Pharmacy and a Bachelor's Degree in Dietetics and Nutrition. Naz was an exchange student in Texas, USA, and has lived in various countries before moving to Vancouver. Naz chose the project management program at VCC to explore new opportunities in business related to her previous academic achievements and educational backgrounds.
Elected as the Director of Events at SUVCC (Student Union at Vancouver Community College), Naz fostered an inclusive community within the student body and had the privilege of engaging with key government officials in the city and province. Naz appreciates her instructors for being readily available to share their knowledge and experiences in Canada and for inspiring her to take on volunteering opportunities in the project management field in addition to the theoretical and applied knowledge learned in classes. Being an active member of these communities, Naz expands on her SUVCC and volunteering experiences to be more competitive in her future career opportunities. Naz came to the realization that being able to build a community and make connections is one of the main reasons she chose to study at VCC.
Naz's dedication and hard work were recognized and celebrated as she received the Project Management Institute Canadian West Coast Chapter Award in Spring 2023. As an international student, Naz shows the VCC community how international education can be a transformative experience, and her journey is an evolving one as she continues to grow professionally and personally. Naz shared her story to encourage other VCC students to connect with others and build a community. "Creating a new life in a new country is extremely hard. Still, if it can be done while building a community for yourself with the support of friends and the VCC family, including academic and support staff, then the experience is a cherishable one."
