Skills/Compétences Canada (SCC) is happy to be heading back to Vancouver in 2022 for the Skills Canada National Competition (SCNC), which will be hosted partly in person for the first time since 2019 due to the pandemic. This year, the post-secondary and the Team Canada Selection Category Competitions will be held at the Vancouver Convention Centre on May 26 and 27. These two categories include more than 300 competitors from all regions of Canada who will participate in over 35 skilled trade and technology competitions. The secondary competition will be held virtually. This category includes more than 200 competitors from all regions from across the country who will compete in 45 skilled trade and technology competitions.
New this year, check out SCC’s YouTube channel to see the event livestream! Watch opening and closing ceremonies, onsite competitors from different skill areas, highlights from the virtual competition, interviews, and more!
The winners in all the Skill Areas and categories will be announced at the Closing Ceremony.

Virtual Secondary Competition

For the first time in about a decade, the Ilanaaq Inukshuk logo and the brilliant blue and green branding look of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games will return to the public realm. And it is all part of the plans to mark the 10-year anniversary of the successful Games.
The upcoming events are organized by the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) to relive the iconic moments and magic that captured the hearts of Vancouverites and Canadians from coast to coast, as well as to celebrate the lasting positive legacies to the Vancouver and Whistler areas.
The COC first announced last fall it will be organizing festivities in Vancouver in February 2020, and there is now a location and a few early details for the party.
On Saturday, February 22, a free public fan festival will be held at Jack Poole Plaza, the site of the Olympic Cauldron and part of Vancouver Convention Centre’s West Building, which was the International Broadcast Centre during the Games.
Festival programming will include athlete meet and greets, stage performances, sports demonstrations, food and beverage, the relighting of the Olympic Cauldron, and other family-friendly activities.
The COC says it will announce additional festival details closer to the event.
As well, on the same day, a separately ticketed gala will be held inside the convention centre, featuring over 60 Olympians and Paralympians.
The unique Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic logos and branding have been reactivated for the first time in years to help promote the festival and gala.
The 21st Olympic Winter Games were held between February 12 and 28 of 2010.
When: Saturday, February 22, 2020
Time: 11 am to 6 pm
Where: Jack Poole Plaza — Vancouver Convention Centre West (1055 Canada Place, Vancouver)

Lights. Camera. Action!
The holiday season and festivities may be over as the city lights installations, art shows and night events come to a close by the end of January. But that does not mean that the fun ends there.
If you are searching for something fun and inspiring this February with your friends, family, date or coworkers, then come enjoy the FREE, entertainment-filled outdoor Light Art Exhibition hosted in Yaletown, showcasing contemporary and engaging technology from industry-leading light artists and designers who play with advanced video and lighting technology. For TWO NIGHTS only, during the February long weekend of 14th and 15th, join us at and take a stroll through some of the coolest and exclusive displays in Yaletown.
Illuminate Yaletown will take place on Hamilton Street, between Drake and Davie. Plus, there will be a surprise installation at the Canada Line Roundhouse station. It lights on at 5:30 pm precisely and the exhibition goes dark at 9 pm sharp. This is a two night, and one street that you don’t want to miss.
Date: Friday & Saturday, February 14 and 15, 2020
Time: at precisely 5:30 pm (the time the sun sets over Vancouver). Event closes at 9 pm
Location #1: 1200 block Hamilton Street (between Davie & Drake St.)
Location #2: Bill Curtis Square (behind Yaletown-Roundhouse Station)
