This class further develops the principles established in Year 1 Modern. Expectations of performance are heightened and students are expected to fully integrate principles of technique and artistry into all the work. All classes are accompanied by a percussionist to support development of sophisticated rhythmical sense and musicality. Prerequisite: Modern Dance 3
This course is part of the full-time Dance Program.
Achieving advanced alignment and efficient movement patterns through floor work
Anatomical efficiency - simultaneous, successive and sequential sequencing
Advanced study of Effort as dynamic quality of movement
Dynamic quality of movement - feeling, tone, texture
Supporting movement function through body awareness and internal connectivity
Advanced modern and contemporary vocabulary: systematic progression from floor to jumping
Advanced study of Space – investigating kinesphere, spatial intent, dimensions and planes of movement
Advanced Musicality - sophisticated grasp of alternative rhythms and internal musical impulse
Structured Improvisation - used: as a systematic warm-up, to refine musicality, to develop awareness of the design of bodies in space and as an approach to instantaneous composition
