Students explore the principles of modern and contemporary dance with an emphasis on anatomical efficiency, spinal articulation, floor work, spatial complexity, movement through space and complex rhythmical patterns. Structured Improvisation is used to explore the principles of technique. All classes are accompanied by a percussionist to support development of sophisticated rhythmical sense and musicality. Prerequisite: Modern Dance 1
This course is part of the full-time Dance Program.
Achieving alignment and efficient movement patterns through floor work
Anatomical efficiency: simultaneous, successive and sequential sequencing
Understanding Effort
Dynamic quality of movement: feeling, tone, texture
Supporting movement function through body awareness and internal connectivity
Advanced modern and contemporary vocabulary: systematic progression from floor to jumping
Space – investigating kinesphere, spatial intent, dimensions and planes of movement
Musicality: becoming familiar with alternative rhythms and developing internal musical impulse
