The VCC Foundation Distributes Fall Student Awards and Scholarships
On Friday, December 6, Vancouver Community College (VCC) held its annual Fall Awards ceremonies, recognizing bright students from across departments.
The morning event commended students from the Centre for Continuing Studies, the School of Hospitality, Food Studies and Applied Business and the School of Health Sciences. The awards handed out in the afternoon went to students from Division of Library, Teaching, School of Trades, Technology, and School of Arts and Sciences.
Last year, the VCC Foundation was grateful to donors who supported 903 students with entrance awards, scholarships and bursaries last year, totalling $761,674. This year, four new donors created awards to support even more deserving learners. These include:
- David Kirk, who created the Irene June Wealick Memorial award, in honour of his Mom.
- Beatrice Antica, who started the Pathfinder Hospitality Management Award.
- Tayybeh, a social enterprise specializing in Syrian food and employing refugee Syrian women chefs and their families, established the Tayybeh Award for Culinary students.
- Mejuri, a local jewellery brand, will fund the Mejuri Design Excellence Award for a student in Jewellery Arts.
The VCC Foundation applauds the generous giving community who recognizes VCC students’ hard work and supports their educational journeys.
“The donors supporting students at VCC understand that strong educational outcomes translate into generous and dedicated community members,” said Moira Gookstetter, VCC Foundation Executive Director. “Success is best shared and paid forward, and our giving community at VCC exemplifies this.”
