Notice: West Coast Express service disruption

Translink

Update (Monday, Aug. 26, 2024): West Coast Express has resumed all services

Vancouver Community College (VCC) students and employees are advised to prepare as West Coast Express service has been suspended as of Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024, due to an ongoing labour dispute between Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) and their union. Translink is adding additional bus service to help move customers during this disruption.

Information for VCC students and employees

We understand that some students, faculty, and staff rely on the West Coast Express and that a loss of service is challenging.

Classes are proceeding and faculty and staff are expected to attend work or make alternative arrangements ahead of time. Be prepared and plan to adjust your travel plans as necessary.

Stay up-to-date. Check Translink's Stay Informed page, sign up for Transit Alerts, follow @TransLink on X (Twitter), or call the Translink Customer Information line at 604-953-3333 to learn when Translink is able to resume West Coast Express services. You can also read these helpful FAQs on Translink’s website.

Other helpful tips:

  • Parking lots will be busy. Allow for extra time to travel and park—be prepared for parking around VCC campuses to be busier than usual. If using street parking, remember to observe street signs and follow city guidelines for parking.
  • Use car or bike share services. There are many options such as Modo, Evo, ShareNow, or Mobi Bikes (Mobi bike stations are located near both VCC campuses)
  • Walk or ride your bike. Remember to practice proper road safety, such as wearing reflective clothing while walking or cycling in the darker evenings and mornings.
  • Carpool. Find colleagues or peers who live near you and consider riding in together!

Lastly, contact your instructor or supervisor if you are concerned about arriving on time to class or work.
