SPUD fills VCC’s Gathering Space Pantry
During the month of September, customers of SPUD.ca had the opportunity to help fill Vancouver Community College’s (VCC) Gathering Space Pantry. The pantry is an initiative from VCC’s Indigenous Education and Community Engagement department that provides healthy and accessible snacks and grocery items for Indigenous students who are impacted by food insecurity.
To participate in the food drive, SPUD customers added healthy and protein-rich food items such as oatmeal, soup, and protein bars to their cart at checkout, or simply donated to the program.
“We are excited to partner with SPUD to provide support for our students. The Gathering Space Pantry offer students a friendly and barrier-free environment where they can help themselves to the cupboard without question,” says Reba Noel, VCC Associate Director, Student Recruitment and Learner Engagement.
At the end of the month, team members from SPUD delivered 20 boxes of food supplies to the pantry. Thanks to their generosity, Indigenous students at VCC have increased access to supports that will aid them in reaching their career goals.
“By helping to build food security for VCC students, we are setting them up for success. Our hearts are filled with gratitude to the SPUD community,” added Reba.
