Deaf and Hard of Hearing - Employment Skills (Advantage)
What you will learn
- Apply employment literacy skills for purpose of employer clarification, notification and requests
- Modify employment documents in relation to current employment advancement and new career opportunities
- Examine and evaluate workplace conflict and apply approaches for resolution
- Develop resources and connect with networks that support current and future employment
- Apply ongoing strategies and skills with increasing confidence and autonomy
What to expect
Program Duration and Maximum Time for Completion
The program is 2 months of full time study. This program may be offered as a day or evening program. The maximum time for completion is 2 years.
Lectures, paired and group work, projects, lab research, presentations, classes may be synchronous or asynchronous

- Completion of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Job Readiness Program Certificate within the last 5 years or department approval
or
- A letter of reference from an employer verifying current employment
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT
- Completion of DHHE 0603 with a grade of "S" or equivalent as determined by Department Leader and EESC instructor

- Applicants must be 16 years of age or older or a graduate of a secondary school. (Some exceptions may apply.)

Seats are offered to eligible applicants with completed applications, in order of application completion date (except for programs with competitive admissions). A complete application includes an application form, evidence of educational pre-requisites (e.g. transcripts), any required supporting documents (e.g. language proficiency, audition video), and the required deposit or fee payment. If you do not meet the requirements for the term applied, your application may be cancelled.

Courses *
Prior learning assessment and recognition
Students may request formal recognition of prior learning attained through informal education, work evaluation, employment or other life experience, including Indigenous ways of knowing. Credits may be granted to students who are able to sufficiently demonstrate the learning outcomes of specific courses.
PLAR is available for all courses in the program.
Methods of PLAR vary by course, and may include exams, external evaluations, professional portfolios, interviews, and other evaluations. Please contact the Department for details.
