Post-secondary associations respond to international education policy changes

In consideration of the recent changes to international education policies and processes by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), several key post-secondary associations have voiced their concerns this week. BC Colleges and Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) have both released formal statements addressing the impacts of the federal government’s new caps on international student enrolment and changes to work permit eligibility.

In their responses, both BC Colleges, under the leadership of Colin Ewart, and CICan, led by Pari Johnston, have emphasized the importance of continued support for international education and its essential role in shaping the future of Canadian post-secondary institutions, local economies, and global citizenry and knowledge sharing.

In addition, the VCC Board of Directors has also issued a letter to the federal government outlining the board’s position on these changes, and the college’s commitment to providing accessible, quality education for all students.
