It’s been a busy summer for International Education at VCC!

After a productive visit from a CHED-led delegation from the Philippines in June, VCC signed four Memorandums of Understandings (MOU) with universities in Ireland and Taiwan. The MOUs are a signal of VCC’s commitment to increasing collaborations with international post-secondary institutions and expanding opportunities for VCC students. VCC has a diverse student population with students coming from almost 150 countries around the world and enrolling nearly 2,000 international students each year. Culinary Arts, Hospitality ManagementCosmetology, and post-degree diplomas in Business and Technology are among the most popular programs for international students seeking an education at VCC.

Enhancing Irish-Canadian cooperation

In June, VCC President Ajay Patel and college leadership were honoured to welcome delegates from Atlantic Technological University (ATU), Education in Ireland, and Enterprise Ireland Canada. The ATU-VCC MOU, signed by President Patel and ATU president, Dr. Orla Flynn, will provide degree and advanced diploma completion opportunities, joint curriculum design, faculty, student, and administrative exchanges, and more. The signing was also attended by Consul General of Ireland, Vancouver, Mr. Frank Flood, and Ireland’s Minister for State Mr. Niall Collins.

The Irish delegation’s Canadian trip also solidified an agreement between Ireland and B.C.’s Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training to further post-secondary education and research opportunities between Ireland and B.C.

Opening doors in Taiwan

In addition to the MOU with ATU, VCC signed MOUs with Taiwanese universities National Chung Cheng University, Shu-Te University, and Hungkuang University, which took place both in-person and virtually.

As VCC is a leader in Instructor Training and English as an Additional Language (EAL) programs, the MOUs with National Chung Cheng University and Shu-Te University identify potential collaborations to enhance teaching and learning for faculty, staff, and students.

The MOU with Hungkuang University, which is recognized as a leading university in health sciences, will focus on academic development opportunities, research initiatives, special projects, and internships.
