She then took the opportunity to be part of the opening team of The Flying Pig Yaletown and Gastown. Recently Danvee has joined the culinary teams as sous chef at Torafuku and Royal Dinette. She loves cooking foods that are nostalgic to her, such as flavours reminiscent of growing up in Hong Kong. Or, her first trip to Japan with family, where the aromas of dashi and grilled fish filled the hallway every morning. These are a few things that contributed to her style of cooking and passion for food.

Your ticket includes a five-course, fixed menu with optional wine pairings.

Herstory-in-focus-2018-600

The Downtown Eastside Women's Centre (DEWC) presents the third annual HERSTORY IN FOCUS, hosted at the Vancouver Art Gallery. HERSTORY raises support and awareness for the work of the Centre, celebrating the strength and resilience of women in our community. As the night's highlight, women of the Centre perform a live fashion show as an expression of style and empowerment.

This year, the Downtown Eastside Women's Centre commemorates our 40 year anniversary, with a special focus on our meal program, and its long-term support sustaining and nourishing women from the Centre's inception. The theme this year is 'inner essence: highlighting the inner power and unique personalities of women.'

HERSTORY aims to raise $50,000 for the drop-in centre and meal program, providing over 500 meals daily to women. As the sole low-barrier drop-in space in the Downtown Eastside, DEWC provides invaluable sanctuary to women in a highly marginalized community, with the meal program serving as the entry point to the Centre and a continuum of care.

Many VCC departments (including fashion, hair design, makeup, and graphic design) are volunteering their time to support this event. Join us at HERSTORY IN FOCUS in supporting the work of the Downtown Eastside Women's Centre and elevating women's voices, stories, and strength.

March 2, 2018
Dorothea Hayley, soprano; Catherine Wood, clarinet; Manuel Laufer, piano - Introduced by Gerald van Wyck

Nature, solitude, and contemplation are the focus of this recital. From the burnished lake of Argento’s To Be Sung Upon the Waterto the azure sky of Meyerbeer’s Hirtenlied, to the towering cliffs of Schubert’s beloved Shepherd on the Rock, the songs celebrate the freedom and inspiration of the natural world. Jeff Younger’s new piece, exploring the theme of erosion, evokes the fragile and transitory nature of our earth's riches.

Join us for VCC Music's first ever Performance Techniques Showcase!

VCC Music is pleased to announce the first Performance Techniques Showcase, featuring some of the finest performances our students have presented this term, as selected by their Performance Techniques instructor, François Houle. This event is not the result of a competitive process; rather, it was created and designed to celebrate the great diversity of musical practices at VCC Music, and to recognize the hard work that goes into all aspects of the music making experience - from planning and organizing the performance to programme note writing and stage demeanour. It also provides an opportunity for students to share their work in an evening concert setting open to the public.

Join us in recognizing the fantastic work being done by our talented music students!

Admission is FREE.

In this world cafe, we will explore the meaning of "primary health care" as a holistic model of health care. We'll explore:

-ways to better engage community members in developing health programs and health promotion initiatives in ways that meet their needs
-ways to work "upstream" to prevent people from getting sick to begin with
-ways to promote people's health through the co-creation of healthy communities
-ways to enable health care workers to work in collaboration with diverse communities and multiple levels of government in this upstream healing and health promotion work.

Come join us for a light lunch, guest speakers, and presentations from VCC nursing students on the health promotion work they have been engaged in, in collaboration with diverse community partners.
