Description
This course continues to build on the skills and knowledge required by the occupational therapist assistant (OTA) and physical therapist assistant (PTA) explored in previous Professional Practice courses. More complex ethical and psychosocial dilemmas related to mental health are discussed. There is also a focus on further development of reflective practice and mentorship.

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Create written documentation using selected systems and record keeping forms in a clinical setting.
- Apply an ethical decision making process to determine actions for ethical dilemmas in OTA and PTA practice in mental health settings.
- Demonstrate professional responsibilities for practice in specific health care agencies.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the role of the OTA and PTA in community practice settings.
- Build mentorship skills using effective communication skills, goal-setting, reflection and conflict resolution.
- Engage in learning opportunities and reflective practice to enhance competence.

Instructional Strategies
Instructional strategies may include: Lecture, seminar, on-line learning, assignments, problem-based
learning, videos, small group discussions, student-led review sessions and guest speakers. Role
rehearsals, reflective practice and in-class presentations will also be included.
