ENGL 1001: Integrated Language Support 1
Description
This course, integrated with ENGL 1101, addresses the needs of non-native speakers of English who require specific help in order to meet course expectations. Students are given various proofreading and editing exercises, as well as paraphrasing and summarizing exercises. They will be introduced to effective techniques of quotation. Through multiple-draft writing assignments, they will learn the principles of effective revision.

Prerequisites
English Studies 12 with a 'C+' , or equivalent, or active registration with the BCCNM.
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Paraphrase and summarize texts accurately
- Vary writing style through manipulation of sentence structures
- Write a summary of a critical essay
- Use academic and literary terminology appropriately
- Compose an analytical essay supporting a well-defined thesis
- Demonstrate control over the stylistics and mechanics demanded in academic writing
