Professionalism (FSCR 0601)
This course covers the following topics:
Students require effective tools and information to make college a rewarding experience. Students learn how to use the college library, how to develop study skills, how to use an agenda book to manage time and deadlines and how to organize and keep their binders in order. Students are also given an orientation of the Learning Centre.
Effective Work Habits
Students discuss the characteristics that make effective work habits. The importance of regular attendance, punctuality, following break routines and displaying a professional attitude is emphasized. Students discuss their concepts of good employee behaviour and compare it to their performance during practicum. Emphasis is placed on working with co-workers and taking direction from supervisors. Students also learn what is meant by quality work, and the importance of consistency. In addition the students are taught how to increase their speed in order to be able to meet kitchen productivity deadlines.
Personal Food Service Hygiene
Good hygiene and grooming are mandatory in a kitchen. Students are expected to demonstrate excellent hygiene and grooming throughout the program. Students learn the importance of regularly maintaining a professional appearance.
