Physicians' Orders 4 (HLUC 2300)
This course builds on the theory and practice from Semester 1 and continues the study of laboratory tests. Students will study microbiology and pathology tests as well as Blood Transfusions Services. Laboratory tests to analyze, detect and monitor the presence of communicable diseases are discussed. Students also study the purpose, patient preparation, management of specimens and principles for processing these tests. Students apply these principles by processing laboratory tests. Problem-solving techniques for processing laboratory orders are discussed and practised. Students process laboratory tests ordered in an acute tertiary hospital through classroom, laboratory, simulation and exercises.
