About the President

Ajay Patel, Interim President at Vancouver Community CollegeAjay Patel was appointed Interim President at Vancouver Community College (VCC) in July 2019. He was originally hired in May 2019 as Vice President, Enterprise and International Development and came to VCC with over 17 years of post-secondary experience. During this time, Ajay held several positions from instructor to department chair to Vice President, External Development. In these previous roles, Ajay provided strategic leadership and contributed to the development of community relations and partnerships that supported students, employees, and communities.

Prior to his work in post-secondary, Ajay spent 15 years in the non-profit amateur sport and recreation sector. Some highlights include serving as chair for the City of Vancouver’s Sport Strategy and working with the Special Olympics and Sport BC. In his career, Ajay has received numerous awards including City of Vancouver Parks and Recreation Volunteer of the Year and the Sport BC President’s Award. Most recently, Ajay was honoured with an International Education Distinguished Leadership Award by the BC Council for International Education.

Raised in Vancouver, Ajay is a longtime Eastside resident. He attended Langara College (then a branch of VCC), and went on to earn a Master of Human Kinetics (Coaching Sciences) from the University of British Columbia (UBC).

As Interim President, Ajay’s main priorities will be to ensure leadership continuity and oversee the continued development of VCC’s Strategic Innovation Plan and Campus Master Plan.
