Paralegal Certificate

For experienced legal support staff - take a course or two to upgrade your skills, or work towards a Paralegal Certificate. You can complete all the Paralegal Certificate Program requirements in approximately two years of part-time study. Short Courses: for fast legal upgrade courses, view "Legal Skills" courses under "Office Administration" program. All Paralegal program courses include a weekly tutorial assignment, comprising approximately three hours of practical learning experience, completed on the student's own time and submitted weekly for instructor review. Program Description

Complete all six core Courses: LEGL 1202, 1203, 1204, 1205, 1207, and 1209.

Practice Area Courses: Choose one practice area and complete all four courses:

Corporations: LEGL 1305, 1307, 1308, 1317

Litigation: LEGL 1301, 1302, 1303, 1304

Real Estate (Conveyancing): LEGL 1309, 1310, 1311, 1312

Family Law and Estates: LEGL 1313, 1314, 1315, 1316

Complete your Practicum, and add 2 electives to be eligible to receive a Paralegal Certificate.

Required Courses:

Required courses include LEGL 1202, 1204, 1205, 1207, 1208, 1209 (formerly 1206) and 1210 (formerly 1203). Students employed in a legal office environment may use their existing position towards their practicum experience, LEGL 1208, to be completed at or near the end of the program.

Elective Courses:

Choose four courses from related Practice Area Courses: 1301 - 1304 (Litigation), 1305, 1307, 1308, & 1317 (Corporate Law), 1309 - 1312 (Real Estate/Conveyancing), or 1313 - 1316 (Family Law and Estates). Choose two electives from 1306, 1401 - 1410. Courses are listed chronologically.
