Welcome to the information page for VCC's TEFL Certificate (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) program, where you'll find all the details you need about admission requirements, program content and how to apply.
The program has been designed to involve the student in a variety of learning environments and instructional delivery methods. Throughout the program, students participate in lectures, demonstrations, peer teaching, group teaching, and individual practice teaching. There may be guest instructors, instructional videos and an opportunity to use computer labs. Students are required to volunteer or work in an English language classroom.
This program is offered on a part-time basis. Students must complete all course work within two years.

Admission Requirements
General
VCC welcomes applications from
Canadian citizens and permanent residents.
As Vancouver Community College is a post-secondary institution committed to
educating adult learners, applicants should be 18 years of age or older or a graduate of a secondary school.
Please note that you must submit official transcripts and educational documents to support your application; unfortunately, we cannot accept photocopies or fax versions.
Program Specific
Grade 12 graduation, including English 12 with a C+ or better, or equivalent.
Applicants whose first language is other than English, who are presenting foreign documents, must achieve the following
scores on one of the following English Language proficiency tests:
Minimum score of 79 on the Internet-based TOEFL or
Band 6.0 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS - academic stream) or
Minimum score of 145/200 on the VCC English Language Assessment Test.
All requests for transfer credits or course exemptions for all courses in the program must be submitted with application to the program. Download a Request for Transfer Credit PDF form.
