Bachelor of Hospitality Management for Industry Executives

The demand for trained management personnel is growing. Apply your experience in the hospitality industry to a bachelor's degree in hospitality management. This program is designed for senior industry executives with extensive management experience and diploma level competencies. As the designated B.C. Centre for Leadership and Innovation in Hospitality, VCC offers a program to meet the needs of the accomodation and food service sectors of B.C.'s expanding tourism industry.

Program Description

This program provides a course of studies that combines theoretical training with industry specific analysis and study. In addition to classroom and online work, students are required to participate in a variety of workshops and functions. Industry executives complete independent study projects during the May-August term and are exempted from the internship component of the program.

Career Prospects

Hospitality management graduates have found employment in hotels, motels, restaurants, food services departments, golf and country clubs, tourist facilities such as ski resorts, private and industrial catering firms, and in a wide variety of other organizations involved in food services such as hospitals, schools and universities. Some graduates also operate their own hospitality businesses such as restaurants, hotels, private catering and convention planning firms.

Admission Requirements

General

VCC welcomes applications from Canadian citizens and permanent residents.


As Vancouver Community College is a post-secondary institution committed to educating adult learners, applicants should be 18 years of age or older or a graduate of a secondary school.

Please note that you must submit official transcripts and educational documents to support your application; unfortunately, we cannot accept photocopies or fax versions.


Program Specific

  1. Applicants must submit a resume detailing work experience, which must include 10 years of management experience in the hospitality sector (vice-president, director, general manager or similar) or a combination of post-secondary education and work experience.
  2. Submit at least two letters of reference from senior management hospitality professionals (one could be an academic source) with at least a three year working relationship.
  3. Submit copies of all post-secondary education certificates, diplomas, courses, workshops, etc.
  4. Recommended characteristics

    The hospitality industry is, first and foremost, a people business. This program has been designed to strengthen and encourage interpersonal skills and a team approach to course work. Students work with fellow students, industry representatives, members of the college community and the public. Students must have the desire to serve and work effectively as team players.
