Jump start your career. Train to become an automotive service technician in VCC's well-equipped shop. In addition, earn apprenticeship qualifications while you gain your VCC credential. Practical workshop experience takes place on real customer vehicles. Graduates of this program acquire basic knowledge, skills and attitudes to carry out their duties in a safe, ethical and professional manner. This program is fully recognized by the Industry Training Authority

Program Description

This 8-month program parallels first-year automotive technician apprenticeship training to enhance a graduate's employability in the industry. Instructional time is 35% classroom and 65% practical activity (approximate). Classroom activities are lectures, demonstrations, audio-visual presentations and exercises. Practical experience takes place in an active shop setting dealing with real customers. The extensive workshop experience provides reinforcement of theoretical concepts, develops hand skills, and familiarity with repair procedures, electronic equipment standard safety procedures. All modules are designed to enable the student to work independently and in groups. Upon successful completion of the program, students receive credit from the ITA for the first level of apprenticeship training in automotive service technician.

Admission Requirements

General

VCC welcomes applications from Canadian citizens and permanent residents.


As Vancouver Community College is a post-secondary institution committed to educating adult learners, applicants should be 18 years of age or older or a graduate of a secondary school.

Program Specific

  1. Graduation from an appropriate career preparation program or meet the English and math requirements(English 11 or Communications 12 or equivalent).
  2. Math 10 or equivalent.
  3. Relevant trade experience is considered.

  • Physical strength and stamina compatible with the handling of heavy parts and equipment as required by the program
  • Ability to tolerate noise and vibration
  • Mechanical aptitude and interest

  • Good line, form and depth perception
  • Possession of valid B.C. driver's license
