June 12, 2012VCC tips hat to excellence among grads, in community at awards event
VANCOUVER, B.C. -- Vancouver Community College highlights the accomplishments of four outstanding graduates and an honorary alumnus, recognized for significant contributions to the community, at the 2012 Outstanding Alumni Awards dinner on June 12, and during Convocation events at the college in June and November.

Mark Brand, responsible for the rebirth of Save on Meats, is a powerful force for change in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. Among his many projects, he has provided VCC culinary students with opportunities to apply their skills while helping needy residents of the area.
Justine Brooks is a VCC jewelry arts grad who balances creativity, digital savvy and entrepreneurship in marketing and selling her creations.
Bruna Giacomazzi completed the commercial secretarial program at Vancouver Vocational Institute (VCC’s predecessor) and eventually became HSBC’s Chief Credit Officer. Since retiring she has been a dedicated mentor and active volunteer.
Lizz Lindsay taught in the dental assisting program at VCC, is an ordained Anglican Church minister and in retirement completed VCC’s culinary arts program then founded three community programs on the North Shore.
Paul Thiele is a well-known advocate and mentor for the blind. He retired from a senior role at UBC’s Crane Library in 2001 then completed the adaptive technology computer program at VCC, graduating with an information technology certificate.
VCC’s outstanding alumni awards recognize excellence among its grads and build bridges to the community.
